ART FOR LIFE
A Kalavedi Project

Kalavedi, an international cultural organization USA
has initiated a project called The Art for Life with one of its stated goals to support destitute
children in Kerala primary school system. We assist
children who are in need of food, education, healthcare,
shelter and clothing, emotional and moral support.
Kalavedi has developed this pilot project as a model
for professional art groups to work with schools and
community organizations to give a helping hand to
poor Children. Many of these children leave the public
school system, uneducated or undereducated, and unprepared
for life as successful young adults. Most will move
into societal issues, joining a large number of adults
with disabilities who are unemployed and are living
below the poverty line in Kerala.
We learned a tremendous amount in a short time through
a field visit lead by Kalavedi actvists at Kallar
Pattom Colony Higher Secondary School in Idukki district,
Kerala and was all challenged by the commitment and
passion for these children especially in the face
of hardships and scant resources.
During the field visit, we stunningly witnessed that
most children are faced with life issues that were
horrifying to us. These children are unable to attend
school because of Social tragedy such as child labors,
domestic - violence abandonment, malnutrition, starvation
and abuse and violence have left these children, unfocused
and unmotivated in their classrooms.
After conducting a survey in each classroom, with the help of school authorities, we selected 200 students with various problems who really need our immediate attention.
As a part of this project, we distribute a small amount of money, as a token, and special gifts to all students and conduct one-day seminar and meeting for social awareness for both students and parents every year since 2005.
The goal of Kalavedi is to continue the services to
our society in Kerala and to broaden the various activities
to cover the needs of some needy students. Success
of any institutions depends on the voluntary support
and we therefore appeal for your services in possible
ways. It is all our cooperative efforts which will
certainly help us to serve the community in future
more efficiently.
If we want these children to be successful and included
as adults, we need to make sure they’re successful
and included as children.
We appeal for your constant and continued help and
support for this noble cause. We welcome all relevant
opinions and suggestions for perfection and kalavedi
will cautiously and carefully evaluate them.
